Lucas Paqueta: Mr Inconsistency

Lucas Paqueta’s recent performances for West Ham United have been, it’s fair to say inconsistent. While he possesses undeniable talent, the Brazilian midfielder seems to be struggling to find his best form.

Paqueta’s inconsistency has become a major concern. He has shown glimpses of his quality, but he has also struggled to maintain a high level of performance. So much so his place in the team is even being questioned with many feeling West Ham’s actual best player, Mohammed Kudus, should be playing centrally instead.

But despite the gripes and moans Paqueta has actually made more progressive passes than any other Hammers players so far this season..19 to be precise.

The Irons must find the right midfield partnership for Lucas Paqueta to thrive. Pairing him with the right players can help him maximise his strengths and minimise his weaknesses.

That may happen with a midfield partner he can really play off, perhaps in the shape of Carlos Soler?

But for a player of Paqueta’s talent he should have far more than the nine goals and nine assists to his name in 62 Premier League appearances.

I guess as Aguerd has left you need to find a new victim to criticise every week. Enter Lucas Paqueta. If you watched the game against City, it was him who drove us forward in the second half.

Also got caught on the ball again for City’s first..

We’re fortunate to have Paqman. Our team needs time to develop and he is in the centre not too far from anything good or bad.

Pac-Man shouldn’t think he is guaranteed a start in the team, on his day he’s brilliant but there are times when he overdoes with the ball , then loses procession. I think Kudus holds off challenges and can create opportunities. Perhaps start Pac-Man in the centre and if he’s not doing it ,take him off and move Kudus over . I just want what’s best for the team.

I suspect the “gripes and moans” are as a result of stray passes, challenges lost, and goals conceded, the other side of that coin. Whatever the reason, there is no doubt he is not the asset he was prior to the interest from Man. City and the betting accusations.

He is “too good” for those around him. You saw when Rice was there he can thrive. Passing to Soucek is pointless. As you said, Soler should help get the best out of him.
