West Ham midfielder Lucas Paquetá remains poised to leave the club should he receive a favourable decision in his FA hearing.
A decision is expected by the end of this month, with the Football Association believed to have already made a judgement on the Brazilian’s guilt. The charges relate to irregular betting patterns surrounding yellow cards he received while playing for West Ham.
If found guilty, it is expected the player will appeal to the Supreme Court, as he would likely face a lifetime ban from football.
However, if West Ham’s record signing is cleared, he is highly likely to leave the London Stadium. Claret & Hugh have been informed that “he has no shortage of options.”
That comment came from a source close to the player when asked if Manchester City remain interested.
We were told: “Paquetá is a top player and probably the only one in the West Ham squad who would interest most top clubs in Europe.”
“There is practically zero chance of him playing for West Ham next season, but everyone is waiting on the FA.”
Paquetá is said to appreciate the support he’s received from the club and, in particular, from Hammers boss Graham Potter.
Unfortunately, it’s becoming increasingly evident that the sale of the 27-year-old—alongside that of Mohammed Kudus—will fund the bulk of West Ham’s summer transfer activity.
While there appear to be no hard feelings on either side, it seems both the club and player would welcome a fresh start.
Quite simply Moyes team was built round Rice .
No coincidence when he left the team went downhill
Great player (obviously), you knew he was important to the team but in fact, he was crucial (took me about a season and a half after he left to figure that out!).
That solo goal of his in the Europe Conference league, I just thought, now we are beginning to see everything that he will do – he kept learning and adding to his game. We stagnated after Europe.
Must admit I have a different opinion and would love to see Paqueta in a WHU shirt next season. I think he is a selfless player, who plays for the team and with a decent midfield around him with energy and legs he’d shine, especially if the manager is good and no FA investigation.
He is 28, the kind of player who tries to shoulder a team, something few can do, especially younger players. Apart from his skill he would be a brilliant foil to a younger midfield and a great example to Earthy for example. On the contrary I think you need 2 players like him (Brooking/Devonshire, Payet/Lanzini, Paqueta/Earthy or ?). P is not the best tackler, but never gives up and harries, so that is ok – just like Lanzini, or more.
Potter wants his own team, but, just my opinion of course, I think it is damning, or say a shame, he prefers to not incorporate Paqueta’s skills and willingness into his team. As you can tell am more convinced at the idea that it is the manager’s choice along the lines of what Spindrift says of players with huge reputations, rather than PSR circumstances beyond our control.
Getting rid of our best player for hard cash, I feel you are hollowing out the team of skill, getting rid of a very valuable player (on the pitch I mean😊) and you should replace him in a season or 2, not now.
Anyhow, hope for the best and will be fascinating to see the blend of players come September – am looking forward to it and to seeing whether the manager pulls it off.
lastly we don’t have a good recruitment team (so far) and WHU is not top of the list of teams players will join so recruitment will be tough. Anyhow, enough said & am repeating myself.
Just gonna sit back & hope for the best for the club, with forced white-knuckled optimism😮
Interesting and thought provoking piece. Thanks Peter whu.
cheers Taffyhammer – nice to hear. bye.
Emerson and Aguerd will bring something in to top up what we get for Paqueta and or Kudus. Add Mav and perhaps even Areola to that, plus the fact that we are getting several high earners off the payroll, I don’t see why we can’t get in 3 or 4 decent additions.
I wouldn’t be bothered about selling him. I don’t think having one or two players with huge reputations helps us build a unified squad.
But I am concerned about how much we’d get. Even if he’s completely exonerated I don’t think we’ll even get back what we paid.
The only one in the squad who would attract interest from top clubs? Have some self-respect.
If we had invested when we had won our cup as we should have done with new players coming in there would be no need to be selling Kudas paqeta and the like We should be adding not depleting our squad Just pure and simple poor planning from the W Ham owners
Do you not think moyes the maestro should take some of the blame for that.
