According to L’Équipe, Lyon is set to complete the permanent transfer of Saïd Benrahma from West Ham United. The Algerian international, who spent the second half of the 2023/24 season on loan at OL, played a crucial role in their remarkable resurgence.
During his loan spell, Benrahma made 15 appearances for Lyon, scoring 3 goals and registering 4 assists in all competitions. The initial loan move cost Lyon €6 million, and upon activating the purchase option, the total value of the deal will rise to €16 million, with the purchase option itself valued at €10 million.
When Benrahma joined during the winter window, Lyon were flirting with relegation. However, they finished the season by qualifying for European competition. Despite initially waiting for regular first-team football, Benrahma’s transfer proved to be a resounding success as he broke into the team and claimed a starting place.
At West Ham, Benrahma was a frustratingly talented player who never fully realised his potential, with suspicions that his transfer was not fully endorsed by then-manager David Moyes.
The French club will still need the transfer to be ratified as they are under transfer embargo.
