Lou Macari has revealed how he had a big fall with Alex Ferguson over the Paul Ince affair.

The former Hammers boss was hit out of the blue by the player’s intended move to Manchester United soon after arriving at Upton Park and admits he was horrified on hearing the news.

And speaking to presenter and lifelong Hammer Nigel Kahn on the Moore Than Just a Podcast the former Manchester United man said: “My first problem was I couldn’t see it coming and when it was all over I said ‘that was nothing to do with me.’

“It had been instigated by his entourage. I was told he  (Ince) was a top young player but then he was out of the door and gone.

“I even fell out with Alex Ferguson over it. I told him: ‘He’s not coming – he’ll stay here and play his football here but in the end I thought the best thing is for Paul to move on .”
