The Hammers focus on Serie A – the Italian Premier League- as a source of well-priced talent is demonstrated by the impending appointment to West Ham’s scouting division of Fiorentina’s chief scout, Antonio Tramontano, this summer.

With a brief to focus on Italian talent, Tramontano will assist Kyle Macaulay in developing new lines into Serie A for future talent recruitment.

As far as this summer is concerned the Hammers are still not yet reported to have initiated direct negotiations for Yunus Musah: However much sport witness.co.uk claim that there is an active discussion:

“Entourage offers player to West Ham – Club want sale, agent ‘working to find solution’ was the title – The report states the Hammers, Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers all like Musah, but the Rossoneri are yet to receive an offer so far.”

So, nothing to see here – yet. The Irons have ‘live’ discussions on half a dozen midfielders and are still hamstrung without a deal for Mohammed Kudus. More than likely the Hammers would rather snare one of Chelsea’s or Liverpool’s young midfielders as part of any Kudus sale: But with no ‘live’ bids that is all a bit pie in the sky just at present. Even Spurs haven’t made a bid.

Whether- as in the case of defender El Hadji Malick Diouf, midfielder negotiations can actually commence without funds in the bank will determine the success of any ‘talks’ with players like Yunus Musah. Somebody else will snap him up soon enough.

Which will be a bit of a ‘downer’ to new Serie A scout Tramontino, to be welcomed by a Serie A transfer ‘fail’ – welcome to West Ham, Signore!

Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
