“Madness” | Second Kante Offer is Crazy

Breaking news on numerous media outlets report that West Ham are close to making a renewed bid for N’Golo Kante. Unbelievably, some are even suggesting the Hammers’ second transfer offer could be as high as £33m.

West Ham had an initial £25 million transfer bid turned down by Al-Ittihad, and it is thought that the Saudi club are keen to retain the player.

Whilst I have tried to remain open-minded about this transfer, the suggestion that West Ham could bid £33m for a player approaching his mid-30s is absolutely preposterous. A high-ranking club official confirmed to Claret & Hugh yesterday that West Ham had been working on a transfer for Kante for ‘weeks’.

That being said, there is a massive difference between the original quoted fee of £20m and the mega money now being reported.

I have no reason to disbelieve the original offer was genuine, but this latest report seems so ridiculous that it can’t be true.

West Ham have some serious transfer business to conclude before the club heads across the Atlantic for our pre-season tour. Why we would waste valuable transfer funds on an aging midfielder when they are actively pursuing a striker and two defenders is beyond me.

I’ve never thought this to be likely there’s a number of reasons why not. Al ittihad don’t want to sell, he doesn’t fit our stated MO, his wages are astronomical, mega expensive transfer fee for his age. high propensity of little sell on value, there’s also tax reasons which would make it expensive for him to leave Saudi now. This one is prime silly season.

That’s what I hoped, John, until Gonzo received confirmation from our ‘source’ inside the club. Who is a pretty ‘accurate’ source. Take our word for it…
Whether we think those millions would be better spent nailing down Jhon Duran or any of the other younger, exciting transfer options – the reality might be simply that WE don’t get to choose..

I think someone at the clubs had a nose bleed with this one ?

The recent international competition has shown Kante is still an experienced top class midfielder with several years ahead of him, just what our team needs in his position. He maybe 33 years old but he has shown he is still top class and there is not many about who can better him. If you think there is then please name them!

Hmmm, sounds like a Mr Sullivan “vanity” signing and outside of everything Steidten and Lopetegui are working on? Could be wrong but based on history and relationships with agents our chairman has a tendency to get involved with parallel recruitment activity? Allardyce confirmed it when daying the “Chairman would buy me players”

    • Tim says:

Whatever, but the money belongs to the club and the Directors of which Sullivan is the Leader of the Gang. He and the Board make the decisions not us. Cant is still a brilliant footballer as we saw on the TV recently and has been keeping himself fit playing in Saudi Arabia. WE need an experienced player like him to control the midfield both in defence and attack. If we can get him I think he will be an outstanding player for our team.

The plan was to hire young players with potential -which might develop into stars while playing for West Ham- and so also reduce the average age for the team. But if that is not important anymore, how many more years does Kante still have at the highest level (as required to succeed and be part of any starting eleven in the Premier League)?

Kante’s last four seasons at Chelsea – 20 separate injuries, 577 days out, 94 games missed – even if he was a free transfer, we shouldn’t be bothering with this utter madness
