Magnificent Hammers make magic in France

West Ham turned in one of the most sensational performances in their recent history on Thursday night as they absolutely battered Lyon 3-0 away from home to reach the Europa League semi-final!

The Irons were utterly brilliant from minute one against the French side, even if there were a couple of near misses.

Ultimately, though, this was as dominant a performance as you’re going to see from West Ham, who grew into the game, much like they’ve grown into the Europa League as a competition.

The first real chance of the game did fall to Lyon, when Karl Toko Ekambi hit the post, but the Hammers were 2-0 up by half-time.

The first goal came through Craig Dawson, who bravely attacked Pablo Fornals’ corner and headed it into the back of the net on 38 minutes.

And then, just five minutes later, Declan Rice made it 2-0 with a strike from the edge of the box that took a slight deflection on its way into the back of the net.

Lyon made two changes at half-time but two minutes later, the game was out of their reach, as Jarrod Bowen scored with a sensational strike into the bottom corner after a fabulous through ball.

Lyon did their best to get back int the game but the Irons stood firm and are now set for a Europa League SEMI-FINAL against Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, who stunned Barcelona on Thursday.
