Magnificent West Ham truly turn on the style

Match verdict by Hughie Southon

West Ham 4 Gent 1

Magnificent West Ham produced a superb second half performance which came out of the drawer which saw them finish seventh last season.

Two astounding goals from Declan and Mikey, a fantastic penalty from Paqueta giving his best performance in a Hammers shirt and wonderful header from a Bowen free kick for Antonio was enough to see us over the line after Gent had taken the lead.

Declan Rice scored the best goal of his magnificent West Ham career

The second half was incredible with the Hammers hitting the woodwork twice via Soucek and Bowen and looking like a team transformed,

Declan described his goal as the best of his Hammers career. No surprise there as he travelled the length of the Gent half beating off defenders to crash home a wonderful goal.

Then Mikey did much the same thing as we followed up the Arsenal draw with a performance which made us all proud to be Hammers .

Carry on like this and it could be a sensational end to a dreadful season as we head out of the relegation zone and towards a Europa Conference final.

At the end Mikey told BT Sports the players had never lost faith in themselves, Those of us who have done will admit if we go on like this we were simply wrong.

Oh and Paqueta was truly magnificent. The tricks he displayed were out of this world on what was a truly amazing night with the stadium rocking.

A brilliant second half performance last night from the players. We looked confident, strong and totally dominated Gent. The first half they played their part and you could not call it at half time. In the second half, Paquera, Rice and Antonio stood out for me. I thought Emerson, Soucek and Benrahma were very quiet. It is not time for Moyes to pull his head out of the sand and make the necessary changes to the team to continue the momentum. I would like to see Cresswell back in for Emerson, Lanzini in fir Soucek and Fornals in fir Benrahma. It is time to get all the squad involved.
