Maiga mystery deepens

West Ham have heard nothing of Modibo Maiga since he was reported as having gone missing from the Metz squad which was beaten 3-1 by Marseilles at the weekend.
Reports in France claim the player could be on his way back to London but West Ham sources told ClaretandHugh within the last few minutes: “We know nothing about his wherabouts at all.
He added:  “We had noticed that Metz only had the six subs and that Maiga wasn’t on the bench but the rest of it is news to us.
“We’ve heard nothing from the player. He’s on a season loan and it can’t be broken, though with our approval he could move to a different club in January.”

Maiga’s  absence has not been explained by coach Albert Cartier who remains tight lipped.

But according to L’Equipe, the relationship between the coach and on loan striker has broken down.

It is claimed the two men had words at training on Thursday when Maiga realized he would not start at the Velodrome. He has scored four goals in 10 games since the start of the season.

  1. I ask you who cares?
Had his chance and was not only out of his depth but commited the ultimate sin, he didn’t even try and wasn’t interested. The very least West Ham expect is 110% commitment and total effort.

You only have to look at Sakho and Valencia to see what is expected and can be achieved if you try your hardest.

Thank god it’s an all season loan as we don’t want that rubbish at our club!

  2. I care very much because this behaviour makes it far less likely that he will be on his way permanently. I find that the best possible reason for caring

  3. As he has gone AWOL couldn’t we cancel his employment for breach of contract? At this moment it would be the perfect outcome.

  4. Another mistake when we were desperate for a good forward, put him with the boys for the rest of his contract or let him walk, some times you have to cut your losses.

  5. I did think there is no way he is coming back to us because surely it’s for a season long loan. I reckon we will pay him off season end move on. Waster IMO.
