This photo of Maiga in his new Al Nassr club shirt says it all!
The player’s guilty and sheepish grin betrays that he really shouldn’t be plying his trade in Saudia Arabia right now – and he knows it.
Maiga travelled to Riyadh, the Saudi capital, on Wednesday without permission from the Hammers, and West Ham officials now consider him to be openly in breach of his contract.
The club are fully within their rights to terminate his contract, which still has a year to run and saving a reputed £40,000 per week. The club could also choose to fine him two weeks’ wages for going AWOL.
On Wednesday, Al Nassr confirmed on their official twitter channel: “New player and former West Ham forward, Modibo Maiga (has) arrived to Riyadh.”
Maiga could make his debut this afternoon when Al Nassr play Alqadisiyah (4:45 pm UK time) at the Prince Muhammad Stadium in Dammam.
The club has tried to get rid of him for a long time and he has flat out refused to go. Now he decides to go on his own. I hope the club goes after him and the Saudi club. HARD. Get the max penalties they can against both of them. I say keep him on the books and suspend him for the year so he can’t play and he can’t earn. Plus fine him. Petty? Maybe but he deserves it.
Does Saudi Arabian football fall under FIFA regulations ??. It would seem not !!
Anyway , strange goings on’s . To be posing in that nasty yellow kit whilst under contract to West Ham is treacherous behaviour and West Ham should go for the maximum compensation possible … A fare few clubs have done to us , so hopefully we can do it back.
Reminds of that horrible day we saw Paul Ince posing in a Man Utd shirt . Not something easily forgotten or forgiven .
Just checked … Saudi Arabia is a FIFA member. In fact, Al Nassr has a write up on FIFA.com

Ofc they are part of FIFA Kevin,if they wasnt they wouldnt play in the world cup would they.
he is our 2nd joint goal scorer in the league you know …….
When can we start the Mexican wave,I hope we just let him go,cancel his contract now,
Cancel his work permit and visa
Don’t let him back in the country,
That’s how you do it Mr Cameron,
I dont care how he got there, whether he should he there or if he is playing today. The very fact he is there not here is good enough for me 😉
Wow his new owners sure know how to push a deal through quickly… so thats the secret.
How can he play for them today if he is still registered to us.Surely he cant play for them withour repercussions because he will be ineligable for them.Either that or he is their player, but it would appear thats not the case.
Maybe we can even demand compensation from the club, you cant just walk out on a contract and say “Hey I play for these guys now” imagine if Messi just walked out on Barca and flew to Madrid …. madness
Enough people have banged on our door for compo its about time we did it back
Good news – if he’s in Breach of Contract hopefully he can be sacked and his Contract cancelled without the compensation – result!
The registration stuff would be a problem for his Saudi club, West Ham hold his registration so he can’t officially play for another Club – all cut a dried – it will add to the Breach of Contract case!
If we hold his contract, is he allowed to play for another team? I understand that he has breached his contract, but surely his new team will be in trouble for playing an unregistered player?
