Major selection issues loom for Viborg clash

By Hughie Southon

David Moyes faces some seemingly major problems with his Thursday night team selection given the absence through suspension of Declan Rice and Aaron Cresswell.

Both are suspended and the skipper will also miss the second leg of the game following his outburst against the referee in the match against Eintracht Frankfurt last season.

Cresswell is missing as a result of a red card in the early exchanges of the same game. Yellow cards do not carry over into the following season’s UEFA competitions after the quarter-final stages. But red card suspensions do.

Manager David Moyes will also complete three suspensions and was also handed a one-game ban for volleying a ball at a ball boy in Germany that night.

Cresswell’s absence is usually covered by Ben Johnson but with Craig Dawson probably missing again there seems only one answer given the likely unavailability of Oggy whom the manager claims still isn’t ready.

Maxwel Cornet could well play at left back as a result leaving Johnson to operate in the centre of defence.

Declan may well be replaced by new boy Flynn Downes given such a game may be exactly the right sort of introduction rather than playing him in the Premier League at this stage.

  1. Is that it ?
What about the rest of the team.
Ashby and Coventry should surely play

  2. It will be equally interesting to see how many of us get the game given there is a national rail strike on Thursday. Not sure what rail and bus services will be running?
