David Sullivan jnr, son of the West Ham chairman is running a social media poll aimed at discovering whether Everton’s James McCarthy was going for the ball or out to deliberately hurt Dimtri Payet.
Dave tweeted “Very dirty tackle in my opinion. Was he going in for the ball or purely to hurt Payet ?”
With over 3,000 votes cast already 73% believe he was out to hurt Payet while only 27% believe he attempted to go for the ball.
Brother Jack Sullivan tweeted this evening “We will miss Payet but the strength and depth of the squad is really good this year!!” adding “I’m not being funny but Everton fans saying he won the ball! He went through the man! Red card all day long”
He later tweeted the player himself saying “Cheers Mate” with a thumbs up icon.
@JMcCarthy_16 thanks mate 🏻

Unsurprisingly a poll of Everton fans by the Liverpool Echo saw it the other way. The Echo asked “Was James McCarthy’s tackle (in which he won the ball) on Dimitri Payet really that bad? NB – This isn’t a biased poll, honest.”
21% selected the button YES IT WAS AND THE WEST HAM WHINERS ARE RIGHT
79% selected the button NO IT WAS FULL-BLOODED AND DESERVED A BOOKING BUT THAT’S ALL
You can even up the biased poll below.
The reason being HH is the Wigan connection , McCarthy, Martinez , and obviously the fact he was from Wigan , on the doorstep of Everton !!!!! What other reason do we need for the tackles that went unpunished ? You have to conclude he was bias because he is a pro ref!
Noble gets a straight red v Liverpool for a nothing tackle McCarthy gets off with a yellow !
For assault !!!
This guy knew exactly what he was doing !!!! Cheating !!!!! There’s no defence for the ref he was so bad in his judgements it was embarrassing !
If only someone could highlight his boyhood team , it may even be Liverpool for all we know and that would tell a story in itself ?? It stinks !!! Why a ref from Wigan and not from horn church or plaistow ,!!! FA playing games or trying to provoke more money to their coffers,
We have to think this way because its unexplainable, don’t think for one minute that refs
Are not bias as that would be naieve , I mean hacket , Thomas , friend , poll ,you name em and they all have a question mark hanging over them , all except Taylor he was a mans ref!
I do not and will not trust the fa or most refs in the prem ever !!!! Why because their human ?
They cheat ? And I don’t think HH you or anybody can say otherwise , its rife in every sport of value !!!! So the wigan connection stinks !! To me !!!!!!
I’m not sure he deliberately wanted to injure Payet badly, but simply by doing the scissor tackle McCarthy obviously wasn’t exactly concerned for the well-being of a fellow professional. He couldn’t control what happened with Payet’s knee and ankles once he had gone in two footed from behind (a sending off by rule any day of the week).
Not sure what the fact the ref was from Wigan has to do with anything. Why would he be particularly fond of Everton ?
It was payback for Henrys hand ball !!!!!!
Plus the ref was born and bread in Wigan 17 miles from Everton !!!!!
Make you’re own connections here !! Its like playing connect five without competition ,
The FA have to be held accountable for this ref being given the game .
Its like giving a ref from mile end the game and expecting him to be fair !!!!
The whole episode is beginning to stink from top to bottom !!!!!
Its a total disgrace what’s happened , and the FA has stolen another 40 grand to boot!!!!!
I know we’ve all got to make money, but an advert that opens every time I’m in the middle of reading is more than annoying. And John Lewis is to blame. Shouldn’t really be a premium brands tactics. A bit like McCarthy’s tackle.
