West Ham United’s pursuit of Aaron Wan-Bissaka has hit a potential stumbling block due to Manchester United’s decision to play the defender in a pre-season friendly against Liverpool.

You’d expect that they would do everything in their power to make sure a deal goes through, especially ensuring he doesn’t get injured, but Manchester United doesn’t work like other clubs.

It was such a ludicrous decision to play him in their preseason fixture against Liverpool that daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has labelled them as “crazy”.

“Aaron Wan-Bissaka played more minutes (83) than any outfield Man Utd player last night in 3-0 defeat to Liverpool,” Taylor posted on X. “Crazy given West Ham agreement is close.”

The English right-back, who is a primary target for the Hammers, sustained injuries during the match, raising concerns about his fitness and availability for a potential move.

The incident has highlighted the chaotic nature of Manchester United’s transfer dealings, with the club’s mismanagement potentially impacting their ability to offload unwanted players. West Ham will now be monitoring Wan-Bissaka’s recovery closely before proceeding with the transfer.

This latest development adds another layer of complexity to an already challenging negotiation process, as the two clubs attempt to reach an agreement on a transfer fee. The rumoured emergence of Inter Milan as ‘spoilers’ to the Hammers’ deal further complicates matters and may account for Manchester United’s tougher stance on price.

Isn’t the fact that he played 80+ minutes not an indicator that the deal is in fact not close at all?

    • Ian says:

That’s how I would read it too. And as he’s their player, and no deal is agreed, then why shouldn’t they play him? It could be that he stays there and they want him ready for the start of the season.

  • Mart says:

Think we should look elsewhere, AWB very unlikely, time to move on.

  • Ironman Sim says:

I suspect they had to play him only because they were up against Liverpool. Had they been comfortably winning they might have pulled him out, but the optics of losing 3-0 against their bitter rivals meant that was not an option.

  • John Ayris says:

Isn’t the most likely reason that if they don’t get Masraoui then Wan Bissaka needs to be fit to play for them.

  • Dudley Tyler says:

With the likely incomings today time for the club to focus on getting some players like Tomas out and raising some money for latter part of the transfer window where generally clubs start getting desperate to raise cash. Ligue 1 is an obvious place to go shopping. Bordeaux was not an isolated incident. Understand that the Villa game is not that far away and the defence needs strengthening but the season is more than one game. This injury, which hardly strengthens ManU’s hand may be useful to us.

Man Utd have had their nose put out of joint so now they are playing games over West Ham’s target transfer it would cause them no end of trouble if we were to move on from the deal and bring in someone else who would be up to the job and excel at it Man Utd would then have to find the money which I don’t think they would be able to do given all the new financial rules to pay the transfer fee would love to see Man Utd come a cropper as I’m sure most fans of other clubs would too

  • B says:

The article suggests Man Utd have not managed the careers of players very well….🤔?

I’m sorry, but evidence suggests the careers/transfers of :
    Jadon Sancho
    Jessie Lingard
    Donny Van de Beek
    Morgan Schneidelin
    Harry Maguire
    Owen Hargreaves
Alexi Sanchez, Taibi, Kleberson, Djemba-Djemba, Falcao, Pogba,

    All well managed…. 🤣

  • Spindrift says:

Any news on AWB’s new injury? I really like the player, would love him here, but we could really do with someone fit to go more or less from the start.

  • Pongo says:

We still must get in a, classy central defender to partner kilman, as well as a right back if man u are playing silly buggers let’s go elsewhere. And Duran wants us, he will definitely leave villa when his contract expires and we can get him on a free then on an improved package he just needs to keep his head down until then apparently villa claim to want him to stay and sign a new contract, but thats just bull**** and Duran will know that as they are trying to sign felix to replace him, which just go’s to prove that they don’t value him at all so they are only asking for 40milluon quid through their greed and need of funds otherwise they will be in trouble with ffp issues. One word morons.

    • Dudley Tyler says:

But will Duran want us now? One of the reasons he was meant be coming was getting a regular starting place and with Ings and Antonio that’s probably a bit more than a guess. Now with the German signed would he be a guaranteed starter?

    • Benny the Aussie says:

Mate you are always posting about Duran coming up on a free?? he’s signed there until 2027, 3 seasons away

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Utd like Spuds and Villa now it seems are time wasters, avoid the drama and get someone from a club that’s not mickey mouse like Man Ure

  • Bib says:

Why does every new manager ”.say they are going down the red bull road’.then buy a load of 30 year olds’

  • Al Clarke says:

So if Man utd are playing the situation like this it’s definitely time to pull out of the deal, he gets injured after a rest of a few weeks says it all. We should show some ******** and look elsewhere and send a message at long last.!!!!!!….coupled with the fact it stuffs Man utd up over buying the Bayern defender….double whammy

  • Tony says:

We should pull out of signing Wan Basikka. Too injury prone for me. Go back in for Walker-Peters instead.

  • My left foot says:

AWB got a head injury and was taken off as a precaution. Otherwise he is fit with no other injuries
