Man Utd linked with shock Hammers swoop

|

Manchester United have been linked with a shock swoop to sign Issa Diop this summer by a new report.

Foot Mercato reports that there is significant interest in signing the central defender at the end of the season, with Lyon and Monaco both said to be keeping tabs on his situation.

And that’s where United come into the equation.

The Frenchman was linked with the club when Jose Mourinho was manager and it now appears that Ralf Rangnick is spearheading a potential pursuit in the next transfer window.

Erik Ten Hag has been appointed as their new manager and Rangnick is set to move into an upstairs role, as he looks to formalise a strategy for the summer.

The report claims that Rangnick was interested in Diop when he was RB Leipzig manager and remains a fan of the Hammer.

It isn’t clear if Diop would be open to such a move, as it is highly likely that he would only be a rotation option at Old Trafford.

I think we need to keep Diop as both Man U and Chelsea will need centre backs this Summer along with big European teams. So competition to get any replacement will be fierce and expensive. Issa is still very young for this position so capable of improving with recent form encouraging.

I tend to agree with Budgie that Diop is still young and can grow into the position with decent coaching. We are hardly in the position to unload central defenders are we?
