Manchester United 0-2 West Ham
Areola:9 Good save from Amad after 8 mins. Got lucky when he was closed down by by the same player after dwelling on the ball. Good save from Mount after 54 mins as the home team eventually cranked up the pressure forcing a series of corners and an impressive Tom Daley like display of diving.
Very import save when he came off his line to block Hojlund and followed it up moments later with a save from Harry Maguire. Saved his best until the 79th min with a two handed goal-line stop from Hojlund. Busy day at the office.
Todibo:6 Full box of tricks was on display from Todibo who was clearly out to impress. Once again, looked knackered after an hour.
Kilman:7 Should have done better with a header after Wan Bissaka had won a freekick. Good stooping header stopped a dangerous move from the home team. Good battle with Hojlund.
Cresswell:7 Calm, composed and always looking to find the correct pass. Not really tested by a very lacklustre Manchester United team who clearly have their minds on other things for at least an hour.
Coufal:7 Played a dangerous cross on 30 mins which caused Man U all sorts of problems. Started the second half well with another telling cross. Important clearing header with the game at 2-0.
Rodriguez:6 Barely put a foot wrong. Excellent football brain, it’s just a shame he’s physically not equipped to play at Premier League pace.
Ward Prowse:7 Good set piece delivery provided Kilman with a good chance. Had a tame left footed chance from open play but was his usual steady Eddie with is passing. Should have scored the Irons third just before the final whistle. Never stopped working.
Soucek:7 Scored the first goal of the game in the 26th min. The big fella’s finish was either exquisite technique or a lucky ricochet, either way, the Czech midfielder was once again in the right place at the right time. I enjoyed his tussle with Maguire.
Wan Bissaka:9Ā Started the game at left wing back and played his part in Soucek’s opener. All action display as usual and got his assist when he created West Ham’s second for Bowen. Outstanding.
Kudus:7 Really struggled to hold on to the ball when West Ham’s defence was looking for an out-ball. Made an excellent run for the first goal and his shot was turned home by Soucek. Picked out Ward Prowse with a good cut-back at the beginning of the second half. Thought he’d mucked up the Irons second by being too greedy but Kudus was up for the fight all game.
Bowen:6 Spent so much of the first half helping out midfield that there was little time spent attacking for the Hammers captain. Didn’t have to wait long in the second half before getting his goal to finish AWB’s neat pass.
Substitutes
Alvarez:5 62nd min sub for Rodriguez. Caught in possession and conceded a silly freekick but did okay. Worth noting that Amorim’s team were far more motivated and energetic in the second half.
Fullkrug:5 72nd min swap for Bowen as part of a double change
Soler:5 Replaced Kudus
Mavropanos:5 Unsurprisingly replaced the exhausted Todibo in the 82nd minute.
Emerson:6Ā On for Coufal
Westham beat the worst ever Man United team after they played a big midweek Euro match . Westham were decent until the last 20 minutes and then if Man United had been clinical could have lost again . At least Westham have a chance of avoiding the ‘wooden spoon’ of finishing 17th . Overall unimpressed with team selection and poorly timed substitutions ( Bowen the ever ready bunny subbed why ?) and only further wins against Forest and Ipswich will suggest true stability .
I for one looked at line up and went ballisticā¦.. what do I know! Just watched the highlights and seems like we rode our luck. Still think Cresswell is worth another year even if just for leadership and back ups. Come on you Irons āļø could be a great weekend with Spuds losing and Arsenal getting battered
a wins a win But just hope Potter stops making these stupid unnecessary substitution taking Bowen and Kudas of was madness and nearly cost us
No it didnāt. Itās about building team spirit, getting the whole squad involved in a good win. Letting them all take part in the end if season feel good factor. Great management.
Fair point
This wouldāve made more sense heād brought on Guilherme. It was about parking the bus, donāt kid yourself
Great game. Every player to a man played their part. Potter really had them ticking. Really looking forward to next season to see what Potter can do with a younger team.
It would be nice to have a strong finish to the season. Forest at home, who are dropping off a bit at the moment and relegated Ipswich on the last day. Not beyond the realm.
A lot to ask at this moment, but finishing the season with 3 wins on the spin would be a nice way to sign off a frankly awful season. Not holding my breath though.
Did not see that coming. Back to position 15. And with that team selection. Superb AWB. Ariola outstanding. Great team effort. Potter a magician or just got lucky?
You make your own luck
Didnāt see or listen to the game. I was disturbed by the starting eleven. Did we play well or were Man Utd just awful?
We played them off the park mate in front of their own crowd.
Same asā¦.. nice surprise the result though. Not many seasons weāve done the double over the Mancs
Place was empty at the end. Starting eleven performed better than I expected, Kudus and Bowen off always results in us defending deep which better teams exploit. I fear this was more a case of how poor Man Utd are than anything else. with each place higher finished worth three million quid it might well have been a result that was worth a few bob…
