Mateus Fernandes can consider himself a little unlucky to have missed out on a place in his Portugal national side for the summer World Cup. It is testimony to the Portuguese squad’s strengths that the 21 year old cannot make the squad let alone the starting eleven in USA this summer.

Having proven his worth and an ability to play at 6,8 or 10, Fernandes is hot property going into the summer transfer window and Manchester United have already broken cover with reported interest in the West Ham midfielder.

As per teamtalk.com:

“Man Utd some £30m shy of West Ham valuation for leading star amid belief ‘deal can be completed.

Manchester United have what is described as a growing belief that a deal is there to be done for Mateus Fernandes this summer, despite being some distance short of West Ham’s valuation and with the player’s thoughts on a transfer to Old Trafford now coming to light.”

As Matt wrote yesterday in an article that has resonated with thousands of C and H readers – West Ham should point the Red Devils at the £80m. asking price and tell them simply to pay up or push off. It is a long summer window with plenty of time for other suitors to come calling for Fernandes.

If Manchester United have just fired the starting gun on one of the summers’ long running transfer sagas, all well and good. PSG were in the mix according to various reports last month. £80 million is worth waiting for and West Ham fans have long since reconciled themselves to lose both Fernandes along with rising star Crysencio Summerville during this summer transfer window. It’s called the price of relegation.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Unfortunately unless the owners inject more cash into the club, that money will simply reduce debt and not replenish the squad

    Don’t forget a 25% sell on clause.
