Mario on Yarmolenko

West Ham Director of Football Mario Husillos believes the capture of Yarmolenko illustrates West Ham’s ambition.

Mario told WHUFC.com “We are very happy to welcome Andriy. When we had the opportunity to sign him, we did not hesitate, because he really is the kind of player that we were looking for,”

He is a left-footed player but can play on the right and is very quick, very good one-on-one against a defender. He gives the team a lot of attacking options and scores goals, is fast on the counter-attack and provides aerial threat with his height.

“He also has very good experience, of playing for big teams and fighting for titles. At Dortmund, he had some good matches but perhaps didn’t quite show his very best. However, I think Manuel Pellegrini is the perfect coach for Andriy and his style of play.

“I believe he is joining us in the perfect moment. He is 28, the prime age for football, and we have great expectation about what he can achieve with West Ham United.”

  1. Here is the damp squid again. Firstly I really hope this signing turns out to be a good signing. I have seen him on a few occasions so I cant really judge him fully but here are the 3 things that stood out to me, he is very left footed, he is very skilful but on the negative I thought he came across a little lazy. I hope I am proved wrong. I still believe we need 4 more captures as follows, CB from Paraguay (forget the Newcastle CH – very over rated), a combatitative CM as we need someone in there with Wilshere, Anderson and a CF like Correa (love this guy). If we get these 4 players in addition to what we have already I think we can really start getting excited about the season ahead. I would keep Antonio and either Obiang or Kouyate for sure. I would consider selling either Kouyate/Obiang, Fernandez, Hernandez, Cresswell, Byran, Cullen, Hugil and possibly either Reid or Ogbanna (I like both though).

  2. johnham, would that list of ‘sales’ leave anyone left from the old regime?
I notice there wasn’t any mention of Adrien….?

Agree it would be good to get another goalscorer/striker, Centre mid and backs, not to mention Anderson or similar wideman….
I’d keep Cresswell, Cullen and Hernandez……

    • Agree with those 3 fella, plus I’d keep Obi-one and Oggy.

    • I suppose I have left both Adrian and Carroll in the squad. Carroll offers something different and can finish but for me he is only an impact player. I really like Adrian and I hope he stays for the year and is our No 1. The other big thing is that after signing Wilshere I don’t believe we can have both Wilshere and Noble in the same team not from the start anyway as we wont have the pace in the team to break quickly. One last wish is that we keep hold of Arnie as he is our leader.
