Martinez double as U21s see off League One Rovers!

Image may contain: text

Tony Martinez grabbed a brace with Martin Samuelsen getting in on the goal scoring act as West Ham’s under 21s brushed aside League opposition in the shape of Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium tonight.

It was a tremendous display by the boys who came from behind after a first minute goal by the League One oufit in an astonishing victory.

Rovers in fact took just 25 seconds to convert when a Byron Moore cross is headed home by Tom Nichols.

For an Irons team of such youth to go in against a side competing at the third tier of the Football League and beat them in comprehensive fashion was amazing.

After the early setback, Martinez scored from the spot in the 42nd minute and five minutes after the break Samuelsen fired homeĀ home a powerful effort across goal.

The Hammers took control and started to dominate and got another through the excellent Martinez after 73 minutesĀ  with a delightful chip..

  1. Two more goals for Martinez, how can he not get a shot on the bench for the first team?

  2. Two agoal Toni! That’s what 23 in 23 since he has been here.
Natural goal scorer good to see Sameulsen on the score sheet too.
At least our U23s are doing good!

  3. Does Bilic ever go and watch these lads.?Because as things stand he needs all the help he can get and maybe watching how Terry Westley has got these lads playing might spark him into some sort of road to Damascus moment. If you want to see progress look at the U21/U23 team Slav.

  4. Just to finish off.Remember Ron Greenwood and John Lyall were both appointed after success with reserves/youth teams.

  5. Does Bilic know we have an under 23’s team? Probably best he doesn’t, would ruin them, can Martinez play right wing back?

  6. Fantastic playing from our U-21/23’s!
Aside from Declan Rice, Haksabanovic, Hooland, Samuelsen, and Martinez, all deserve inclusion in the first team squad. These boys are enthusiastic, fast, and play with a lot of creativity.
    Awake, awake! (zen-master Slav)

  7. They should certainly be rewarded for their hard work, perhaps Slav is afraid they might show up his first team players, Rice certainly looks like he belongs when he plays, Holland may still be a little lightweight, same with Quina but Martinez looks as strong as an ox for his age.

  8. Same with Samuelson. Extremely light weight. Shame because he’s extremely skillful.
