West Ham and Nottingham Forest have both been charged for failing to control their players during the final minutes of their Premier League meeting at the London Stadium last Sunday.
West Ham midfielders Edson Alvarez and Carlos Soler were booked, while Forest defenders Murillo and Morato were also shown yellow cards for their involvement in altercation.
The game lasted 112 minutes and 55 seconds because of a long period of stoppage time, including a lengthy delay to determine whether Nikola Milenkovic’s winner was offside.
“West Ham United and Nottingham Forest have been charged in relation to the mass confrontation at their Premier League game on Sunday, 18 May,” said the FA.
“It’s alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players didn’t behave in an improper and/or provocative way around the 103rd minute.
“West Ham United and Nottingham Forest have to provide their responses by Friday, 23 May.”
The FA fines clubs for failing to control their players when players engage in improper behaviour, such as surrounding referees, or when players don’t conduct themselves in an orderly fashion. This is a violation of FA rule E20, which states that clubs are responsible for ensuring their players behave appropriately. Fines can range from thousands to tens of thousands.
Earlier this year an independent Regulatory Commission imposed a £65,000 fine on Arsenal in relation to the Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday 25 January. Sheffield United were recently fined £180,000 when they lost control of their players in a defeat to Plymouth last month.
So more than likely, a hefty fine awaits.
Useful for Sky Forest beating us. Sets their Chelsea game up nicely. I’m no conspiracy theorist but with the level of refereeing in the game it does make you wonder.
VAR and match officials should be charged with bringing the game into disrepute. Fair’s fair. We should see the same values of behaviour treated with similar reactions.
I totally agree with the previous comment it must be a midland thing, Villa are the same
I wonder why?
Could it have been the unbelievably pathetic performance of Mr Barrott..? No? That’s not the first time I’ve seen him referee a game @ LS and not the first time he had been the reason for inciting player behaviour! Poor control, biased decisions and a lack of understanding/communication throughout the match, led to the fiasco. Well timed challenges booked, unsportsmanlike behaviour from the away team ignored and when not ignored, unpunished. The Forest team were despicable with their tactics and behaviour which ultimately resulted in what unfolded.
S.Barrott is a CLINT.
His refereeing was appalling, wasn’t aware he had previous.
Forest’s behaviour disappointed and once they realised it bore no consequences it opened the floodgates.
