Masuaku or Arnautovic – Who is better on the left wing?

arthurArthur Masuaku has proved himself to be just as capable on the left wing as the left back. The left-back signed from Olympiakos in August 2016 for a fee understood to be £6m.

Last week he told WHUFC.com “I like to go forward because when I was younger I played left wing, so for me my best position is left wing-back, we were speaking about this before we came on, It is good, we came on and we played a big part for the goal so everyone was happy for us”

With one goal just voted West Ham goal of the month and two assists in recent games the question has to be asked whether he is a better Left winger than a left back and if so why does this leave record signing Marko Arnautovic and should  Masuaku start in front of him?

West Ham announced the Club-record signing of Austria left winger Marko Arnautovic from Stoke for £20m plus another £4m of add-ons. Today we ask the question who should Slaven Bilic start on the left wing for Burnley away?

  1. Arnautovic is two footed. Why not start him on the right? Antonio clearly hasn’t been fully fit and the club are taking a huge risk. It ended his season early last year when they rushed him back from his hamstring injury. Wasn’t fit for the spuds, looked shattered by the end against Swansea.

Start them both, see who’s playing better after 60/70 mins, sub one for Antonio and rearrange if needed…

  2. MAsuaku wants to play left wingback not left wing, the ideal partnership is Masuaku and Arnautovic with Arnautovic coming inside and Masuaku overlapping, something we have been missing since Payet’s departure. We need Arnautovic because he can at least hold the ball up and allow us the time to form attacks, unless Lanzini plays no one wants to hold onto the ball for long enough, we just move it around aimlesslly at a slow pace and hope the other team falls asleep or makes a glaring mistake.
