Mavropanos’ Challenge Grows Tougher

Pity the Greek. Under fire from many directions following a couple of errors, Konstantinos Mavropanos has more to deal with as pressure from an extremely unexpected source is added to the clamour for him to relinquish his starting spot in West Ham’s defence.

After mistakes which cost The Hammers’ goals against Manchester City and Fulham – and criticism which followed, our Greek Colossus must be in the firing line with his ready-made replacement sitting watching from the bench.

As if that wasn’t enough for ‘Mav’ to deal with, he now has UEFA themselves piling in and featuring his competitor for the first team shirt – on their twitter /x feed no less, watched over seventy seven thousand times!

The European Football Association decided, amongst their posts on the page for ‘The UEFA Conference League’ – along with’vintage’ videos of Haarland, Saliba and Tammy Abraham – to include one entitled ‘Jean Clair Todibo Sweeping Up’ – which, whilst Hammers Fans will love it because it helps understand exactly why we have Jean-Clair in our ranks- can’t be comfort for Mavropanos as he struggles to maintain his own place.

Mavropanos’ uphill challenge to stay in the first team

Maybe Todibo has friends in high places?

I did scroll down the UEFA Conference league page and instantly regretted it- The Jhon Duran goal featured on video is a bit of a low blow for West Ham supporters so I haven’t linked it here .

Go look, drool, and regret a little over ‘what might have been’. And find something else to do on Thursday nights this season.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970.. 'Football is Life' oh yes. Let it raise your spirit but never darken your mood. Life's too short not to enjoy the journey with our Claret and Blue heroes n' villains.

Not sure about the point being made here but I am wondering as the buildup to Saturday’s game against Chelsea begins, how unfit has Todibo got to be to be a worse choice than Mavrapanos? After close to 2 months now I would expect that fitness is no longer an issue and that he will get a start.

Will be very odd if Todibo is on the bench again. But Lopetegui does make some strange selections.
