Max Kilman recently had some glowing things to say about his new club when he described the move to West Ham as a “massive honour” and the “perfect move” for his career at this moment. Once coveted by the likes of Napoli, the former Wolves player was among the headlines when he signed for the Hammers for £40 million back in July.

The Season So Far

West Ham have made an uneven start to the campaign with a win, a draw, and two losses from their first four games so far. After drawing 1-1 with Fulham, the team has some work to do and will need to regroup after a hard-fought point.

West Ham had a chance to tilt the scales in their favour given their amazing European journey that saw them finish last season as UEFA Conference League winners. Before the Fulham game, the team’s odds suggested a tightly contested match, with West Ham and Fulham both listed at similar odds to win.

In the end, odds separated them and pegged at 81/50, which strongly indicated a tight match with no outright favourite. With such a large variety of UK bookmakers to choose from these days, sports betting enthusiasts are always looking out for any tip that can help them gain a slight betting edge.

On this occasion, the bookmakers were spot on as the game did indeed finish in a draw when Danny Ings grabbed a last-gasp goal to equalise the game with virtually the last kick. Max Kilman has been doing great and settling in seamlessly since his switch. As the former captain of Wolves, he brings a wealth of experience to the squad.

Max Kilman’s Warm Homecoming to West Ham

Defending well so far, he also grabbed an assist in the 2-0 win against Palace. Kilman has recently shown a lot of enthusiasm about his transfer to West Ham. In an interview with Football Focus, he also touched on his roots. Having grown up in the vicinity of West Ham, according to him, playing for the team is like coming home.

However, his connection to the club goes a lot further. His personal experiences, like attending West Ham Church school and his father’s visits to West Ham Park, make it clear that he’s always been a fan. For that matter, the club was more than happy to have him. Kilman was offered a seven-year deal to keep him at the club long-term, with more transfers on the horizon.

He Also Praised Lopetegui

Kilman was also quick to praise Julen Lopetegui, noting that he’s the kind of manager who’s great at enhancing player performance. Kilman was also full of praise for his dedication to implementing a new, more possession-based, attacking style of play—though not everyone was convinced he would.

Of course, Kilman and Lopetegui know each other well since the Spanish manager was also his manager at Wolves during his nine-month tenure at Molineux. Kilman’s familiarity with the area should also serve him well, making his transition far less jarring than some transfers can be.

Under Lopetegui’s guidance, Kilman is anticipating a continued push for progressive and more play. This aligns well with clubs’ ambitions for growth, with fans loving it. Kilman also acknowledges the ambition and quality of the current West Ham squad.
