Recent reports linking Manchester United and Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay with a move to West Ham may be nothing more than idle speculation.
As all Hammers fans will know, the club retained a serious interest in the midfielder under the stewardship of former manager David Moyes; however, many thought our interest in McTominay ended with the Scotsman’s departure. That much was confirmed to C&H earlier by someone at club level who was involved in last seasons negotiations.
Therefore, it’s odd to read that West Ham are involved in a transfer tussle with numerous Turkish clubs to secure the signature of the 27-year-old.
Midfield is not thought to be a priority position for strengthening in this transfer window, although it should be noted that West Ham’s bid for Aleix Garcia was serious.
Even if the Hammers were to hold an interest in McTominay, his £40 million valuation mentioned by United would be completely prohibitive. Although cryptically, C&H have been told by a West Ham source within the last hour that it’s unlikely Man U would sell the player who the club insider described as a ‘good player’.
With James Ward-Prowse, Tomas Soucek, Edson Alvarez, Flynn Downes, Freddie Potts, and Lewis Orford all on the books, the club would need at least two midfielders to balance the books before someone else was signed.
