“Medical Today” | How Hammers Beat Barca to World Cup Winner

Argentine World Cup winner Guido Rodríguez is scheduled for his West Ham medical today.

In what has been one of the most surprising transfers of recent days, the move was announced without any prior links between the player and West Ham being revealed in the media.

Rodríguez is a holding midfielder who played alongside the Hammers’ own Edson Álvarez at Mexican side Club América. At that time, Álvarez was still playing as a central defender in many of the 76 games the two players featured in together.

Rodríguez had signed a pre-contract agreement with Barcelona for the forthcoming season. However, the agreement fell through after Xavi and the Catalan giants parted ways. New Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick is already facing tough decisions, with several senior players left unregistered this season as the club battles financial problems. These issues contributed to Rodríguez’s deal not being honoured.

But Barcelona’s loss is certainly West Ham’s gain. Rodríguez has enjoyed significant success with the Argentina national team, playing a part in their 2021 and 2024 Copa América triumphs, as well as lifting the 2022 World Cup.

At the club level, Rodríguez has played for River Plate, Tijuana, and Club América in Argentina and Mexico, respectively, before moving to Europe with Real Betis in January 2020.

My only concern about this transfer is are we going to see Alvarez leave now for big money to Man Utd? we all know Haag coached him at Ajax and would love to have him at the club and with McTominay rumoured to be going to Fulham you have to think.

Gonzo, what would be the average age of the 3 signings you’re expecting today/soon, along with the 3 already signed? I suspect the average squad age isn’t getting much lower (if at all). Very worrying this.

An 18 year old a 21 Yr old 34 Yr old 30 Yr old 31 Yr old a 26yr old 160 divide by 6 so 26and a half yrs on average that definitely lowers the squad age, and when we have wan bissaka and maybe Duran signed up it will be even lower, and then ship out the pensioners and it will become even lower then factor in a couple of our quality youths and it will be significantly lower, and don’t forget that ogbonna who was 36 has gone already. Get those deals done ASAP then find another younger centre back to partner kilman and we should definitely be a top six side even Romano is raving about how good our transfer window could be if all business is done and secured, and as we all know he is a good judge and very well respected so knows his, stuff.

I’m not sure we have beaten Barcelona this signing to be fair. Wasn’t it Xavi who wanted him? So once he left there was no deal there.

  • Tim Woolley says:

So West Ham didn’t beat Barca for the player at all really 🤔

Remember the deal with Bobby and how that went,so to remind you,

    Jeepers, we’re a negative bunch.
This isn’t Blackburn of the 90’s, we’re not buying the title.
We are getting quality players, it seems we’re integrating academy players into the first team, it looks a lot like a plan.
I’ll reserve all judgement until after Christmas.

I’m getting upbeat again. Should I hold off? 😊

  • Leo says:

I think they have had a good window and should continue to do so but I think they do still need to lower the average age of the squad which I think they’ll do
