Jelavic signing leaves Merson doubting Irons hopes

Paul-Merson-Headshot_3190859Sky Pundit Paul Merson has rated West Ham’s chances of enjoying a good season as distinctly average – all because of the club’s decision to buy Nikica Jelavic from Hull City!

In an interview on theSky Sports News website, pundit Merse said: “Dimitri Payet is a different class and Victor Moses is a good signing, but I’m not so sure about Nikica Jelavic. I was tempted to give them a higher grade, but I think I will give them a B because they have done fine.”

Former Arsenal ace, Merson, then discredited the grading process by also giving the Gunners a grade B rating. Merse said his analysis was based on Arsene Wenger only signing one player – goalkeeper Petr Cech.

Players in: Dimitri Payet (Marseille), Angelo Ogbonna (Juventus), Pedro Obiang (Sampdoria), Carl Jenkinson (Arsenal, Loan), Manuel Lanzini (Al Jazira, Loan), Darren Randolph (Birmingham), Nikica Jelavic (Hull City), Alex Song (Barcelona, Loan), Victor Moses (Chelsea, Loan), Mikhail Antonio (Nottingham Forest)

Players out: Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough), Matt Jarvis (Norwich, Loan), Dan Potts (Luton), Paul McCallum (Leyton Orient), Kevin Nolan (Released) Carlton Cole (Released), Guy Demel (Released), Jussi Jaaskelainen (Released), Nene (Released), Diego Poyet (MK Dons, Loan), Reece Burke (Bradford, Loan)
