Sky Pundit Paul Merson has graded West Ham’s summer transfer business at a B+ but says they should be spending £100m
Major ins: Pablo Zabaleta (Manchester City, free), Joe Hart (Manchester City, loan), Marko Arnautovic (Stoke, £25m), Javier Hernandez (Bayer Leverkusen, £16m).
Major outs: Darren Randolph (Middlesbrough, £5m), Reece Oxford (Borussia Monchengladbach, loan), Alvaro Arbeloa (retired), Havard Nordtveit (Hoffenheim, £8m), Enner Valencia (Tigres, undisclosed), Ashley Fletcher (Middlesbrough, £6.5m), Sofiane Feghouli (Galatasaray, undisclosed), Robert Snodgrass (Aston Villa, loan).
MERSE SAYS: Pablo Zabaleta is a good pro, but is coming towards the end of his career, but I think they’ve made three strong signings in Joe Hart, Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez. However, it’s not enough, is it? I saw Tony Gale on TV, saying they have spent £4m net in four years which is ridiculous. They should be spending £100m, but I will give them a decent grade because what they have brought in is decent.
How would he know they have that to spend. Half the time the experts say clubs should show financial responsibility, then they say this- & get paid for it.
Mind you it should have been more than £19m net!
Oh well thats ok B+ leaves room for improvement thanks teacher
100 mill !!! Get sully a defib someone ! 😂
Next level ? This season ? He may well be right 😉
You have a misinformed and none too bright Gale spouting rubbish which is simply not true, presumably to drive his own agenda, and then you have Merson, the oracle personified, using Gale’s lies to form a judgement and broadcast it.
It suggests Tony Gale doesn’t have the interests of the club at heart or he is plain stupid.
I would say the latter as the only thing his comments have proved is he doesnt know what he is talking about 😜
