West Statement on Michail Antonio
West Ham United can confirm Michail Antonio has undergone surgery on a lower limb fracture following a road traffic accident on Saturday afternoon (7 December 2024).
Michail will continue to be monitored in hospital over the coming days.
Everyone at the Club wishes Michail a speedy recovery and wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the football family at large for the overwhelming support shown since yesterday’s news, as well as extending a heartfelt thank you to the emergency services and first responders who attended to Michail in the immediate aftermath of the incident, and the medical team who continue to aid him in his recovery.
The Club will provide further updates when appropriate.
Whilst Claret & Hugh does not wish to speculate on the status of Antonio, we are aware of the website’s responsibility not to ignore what is clearly a worrying situation.
Everyone at C&H, along with our readers, is understandably concerned about Mikey’s condition. However, we feel it is best to allow the club and Antonio’s family to provide any updates.
Therefore, we will not be speculating about his current condition or the events surrounding yesterday’s motor accident. There seems little purpose in exploring details of what happened, and whilst my old mate Hughie always referred to C&H as “The Daily West Ham Newspaper,” I’m not entirely comfortable discussing the accident in detail.
The update provided by West Ham that Antonio was “conscious and communicating” was welcome news last night and todays statement is even more encouraging. On behalf of everyone at C&H, I’d like to say we all hope Mikey can get back home for Christmas and begin the road to recovery.
He has the love and support of West Ham fans around the world, and having had the pleasure of his company personally, I can only echo what others have said: Antonio is an incredibly friendly guy and highly regarded.
Hopefully, everyone will understand that this is not C&H attempting to avoid the situation, but rather our effort to be as respectful as possible to Mikey and his family by limiting what must be distressing reports.
Get well soon, mate.
Indeed. Get well soon Mikey.
All the best Mikey. My favourite player over the years.
Hope you get better Michail🙏⚒️
Well anyone whoever they are is not going to be playing football for a while after breaking a leg so step up Niklas Fullkrug.
Get well Mikey and thanks for everything. Especially that near post header in the last season at Upton Park against zSpurs😄😄👍🏻👍🏻 brilliant.
Never the best but by no means the worst. You’ll do for my memory bank mate. Thankyou
