According to breaking reports, Michail Antonio is set to join Qatari side Al-Sailiya SC, marking an intriguing new chapter for the veteran forward.

Now aged 35 and best known for his long, productive spell at West Ham United, he has entered talks with the club as he seeks his first deal since leaving the Premier League.

Al-Sailiya compete in the Qatar Stars League, sitting mid-table after earning promotion last season.

The club has been steadily rebuilding, aiming to blend experienced international players with emerging local talent. Qatar’s football landscape has grown rapidly in recent years, driven by major investment and the country’s ambition to strengthen its domestic league.

The national team has risen in prominence too, winning the AFC Asian Cup in 2019 and 2023, and continuing to develop through the Qatar Football Association’s long-term strategy. The federation appointed former West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui in May 2025 and secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

For Antonio, this move could offer regular minutes and a fresh environment, although there are only six games remaining before the season concludes.

It had been widely expected that the Jamaican international would sign for Charlton Athletic, having trained with the south-east London club. Portsmouth FC also expressed interest.

Yet the potential switch to Qatar reflects the country’s ongoing effort to attract seasoned professionals — and it could prove beneficial for both player and club.

I have been a season ticket holder since the late eighties, so experienced the highs and lows of being a West Ham supporter. I previously wrote for OLAS and have contributed to a number of football publications in the past.
