West Ham United are this afternoon insisting that there remains “some way to go” on negotiations to bring Dimitri Payet to Upton Park.
Speculation that a deal is close and even that the Irons have upped their bid to £14 million for the midfield playmaker have been circulating throughout the day.
But a key ClaretandHugh insider explained a few minutes ago: “We have made it clear in the past few days that despite some difficulties – as is usually the case in these deals – we remain keen on the player.
“However, we have several other options because it’s not straightforward and currently the player remains away in Mauritius.
“As for the fee, we believed £12 million for a 28 year old was too much at the outset although it would not be helpful to get into figures while talks continue. However, this is a player we really do like.”
The attention being given to attacking midfielders and (outside of rumours like the Austin one) the lack of serious intent on strikers, suggests to me that none of our existing strikers are under threat of being sold and that (unless a real bargain deal surfaces) the present squad are going to continue as our main strikers for the new season, and that includes Carroll, who I believe can fit into a Billic style team.
I think the price maybe too high and from what I hear the Turkish lad Tore would be a better and cheaper bet but might be hard to prise away from Besiktas, who needs Wetpants when your kebab man can give you not only the details but a lovely kofte too lol
Can see it now,we will p*ss about, mess about, fart about sweating the small stuff & the Spuds will steam in & have the deal all wrapped up in two days 😉
