Mike Dean back with the Hammers!

Mike Dean has been appointed as the referee for West Ham’s clash with Leeds United on Monday night.

It will mark the first time Dean has refereed a Hammers game since that clash with Fulham when he sent off Tomas Soucek for an apparent elbow on Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Dean even went to the VAR screen and inexplicably watched an accident take place, before producing the red card and sending the Czech international off.

The ref asked to be taken off duty after the game, which also followed another poor decision when he showed a red card to Southampton defender Jan Bednarek.

Both of those decisions were overturned on appeal and Dean cited death threats for his reason to be left out of refereeing appointments.

He returned last weekend to ref Burnley against West Brom, which ended in a goalless draw and again saw Dean show a red card, this time to defender Semi Ajayi. He was in charge of Newcastle’s draw with Wolves at the weekend.

Dean will be the man in the middle on Monday so it remains to be seen if there is any controversy there!

  1. Does anyone actually think ? Who on earth agreed that ?

  2. If? Or when? Controversy virtually guaranteed 🤨

  3. you have to wonder why the powers to be put him on this game? There are many other PL Games around, but some old codger just put the name down and be done with it! I am no fan of Deanna all; but FFS give him some protection from clubs that have upset him; then through the power of diminishing returns, he be in the Championship!! Please don’t tell me that Lee Mason is the VAR man too…

  4. Dean is getting all the flack but it’s lee mason who was on var and it’s lee mason who was giving the advice to dean. Dean was just stupid enough to listen to lee mason, a referee who the head referee recently said of that he should hang his whistle up because he’s not good enough. Quite a damning statement really.
