So we are about to reach the last stages of the Europa Group games with all of the English clubs doing really well. West Ham and Freiburg top our Group A with the pair meeting on December 14 with a momentous clash on the cards whilst Olympiacos and TSC Backa Topola meet on the same night
The Hammers and Freiburg are on 12 points apiece having only lost one game so expect a full house as we meet the Bundesliga team who last night crushed Olympiacos 5-0. The Greek outfit are on four points in third place and Backa Topola, who cannot qualify for the next round. West Ham, however, cannot be confirmed as Group A victors until the next match week. Can’t wait!
In Group B Brighton and Hove Albion are in second place on 10 points behind leaders Marseille whilst Rangers are in the same position in Group C behind Real Betis and Liverpool are now four points clear of the rest in Group E.
It’s a tremendous competition thus far but sadly the Hammers have been far from their best in most games where they have all but played reserve teams. That we have managed to reach the top of the Group may say far more about the quality of the opposition than our own performance levels.
