Moyes admits he’s ‘desperate’

David Moyes admits that he is “desperate” to get back into Europe this season.

The Hammers comfortably beat Norwich on Sunday, winning 4-0 against the already relegated Canaries.

Goals from Mikey Antonio, Manuel Lanzini, and a Said Benrahma brace were more than enough for a feel-good win in the sunshine.

The Hammers are now comfortable in seventh, sitting five points ahead of Wolves, who have a game in hand.

The Irons are also just three points behind Manchester United, meaning that winning out would give the Irons qualification to the Europa League, although doing that would include beating Manchester City, which is no mean feat.

And Moyes has now revealed that he remains determined to qualify for Europe; a seventh-placed finish would mean qualification for the Europa Conference League.

Speaking after the game against Norwich, the Irons boss said, per BBC Sport: “We are desperate to get back into Europe. We’ve had an unbelievable experience. It isn’t something West Ham have had regularly, and not for a long time. The supporters enjoyed it and we had a great trip. We are trying to get into the Europa League or Conference League.”

Moyes was also very pleased with the performance, which came after the heartbreaking defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday.

He added: “It was big that we turned in a good performance and result after one of the biggest disappointments we’ve all had in a long time [Thursday’s defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt]. Great credit to the players; they got themselves ready and got three important points.

“Any manager would think there is a chance of a hangover because you never know. the way football is. We set the tone in the first 20 minutes and got a goal in that period as well. The players did a really good, professional job. We could have played better and on another day we might have scored more. We’ve missed regular goals in the past few months.”

West Ham play City next Sunday before playing Brighton away on the final day of the season.

  1. We need to somehow beat City now, if we can do that we have a shot at Europa League, or even a draw to take Wolves out of the equation for 7th.
