David Moyes admits that he has been trying to sign a striker for two years!
The Hammers comfortably beat the Premier League’s bottom side Norwich on Wednesday night, winning 2-0 thanks to a Jarrod Bowen brace.
Mikey Antonio started up front but was subbed with two minutes to go, being replaced by Andriy Yarmolenko.
There isn’t a senior substitute striker in the squad, with Antonio still the out-and-out forward that the Hammers rely on and Moyes admits that the club have been trying to find a back-up to the Jamaica international for two years now, but have yet to source a potential recruit.
Indeed, the manager also admits that he does want to do business this month as he looks to bolster the squad amid their return to the top four; Moyes would like both a striker and a central defender.
Speaking to reporters after the win over Norwich, as per Football.London, he said: “We have been trying to get someone who can compete with Mic for two years, it is hard to bring in centre-forwards.
“I want to bring players in but I am not going to do it for the sake of it or because the transfer window is pushed by the media. Supporters want players and we will try to do so. I am hoping to do business.”
Is it only me that think that this is yet more proof of what a class act Moyes is? Every other manager we’ve had in recent years would’ve caved in to the pressure of the fans and the media, and brought a poor quality striker. Or three, if it was BFS.
Remind me, who bought Jordan Hugill LOL…sorry LJD couldn’t resist.
You’ve got a longer memory than me, Hughie! Shall we be generous to Moyes, and suggest that he’s leaned from that particular mistake?!
🙂
I agree with you ljd1980, 100%.
We have been pacified over the years with a multitude of strikers that were NEVER good enough and due diligence in signing most of these players was never really carried out.
