Moyes asks the big Benrahma question

Said Benrahma is facing the biggest test of his footballing career and nobody knows that better than manager David Moyes.

Having taken the player on loan after his blood tests issue but with a commitment to make the deal permanent regardless at the end of the season the 25 year old is now facing a challenge which Moyes has seen many pass previously.

Benrahma had an awesome Championship campaign last term when scoring 17 goals and providing 12 assists but the big question now is can he carry that on at the higher level.

Jarrod Bowen is an example of how players can step up on the right and if Benrahma can do the same down the left West Ham united is heading for a very good place indeed.

It’s unlikely we will learn anything this afternoon with the player’s squad inclusion expected to start at Manchester City next weekend

But Moyes talking at https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/october/17-october/david-moyes-were-really-good-place-moment-time said: “Over the course of my career I’ve asked the likes of Leighton Baines if he can do it?

Could Phil Jagielka do it? Could Tim Cahill do it? Could Joleon Lescott do it? Could any of these boys step up and become Premier League players?

That would be the challenge for Saïd, but if he can bring his goals and assists to what we’ve got at the moment, it would be another dimension which he would bring to the team, I hope.

I have always looked there first, because I think there is a lot of good players here who play in the Championship. The best example is Sheffield United, who came up a couple of divisions and were fantastic last year and a lot of their players didn’t look out of place in the Premier League.

I think the Championship has got good players. I’m not saying every player is going to make it and not all the ones I’ve bought have done it, but I think the ones I’ve bought have put a good show in and I think Saïd could do that.

I want players who are hungry like Jarrod Bowen.  I think Jarrod has shown it and we want him to continue to do the same, and I think Saïd can show it and we’ll be asking him ‘Can you do it?’. We want to bring in players who want to step up and we hope he’ll bring that to us as well.”

  1. 🤞 . We are all hoping it works out good for the Club .. win some , lose some . A decent record so far with Soucec , Fornals , Bowen and for the moment Coufal . Waiting to see if Dawson can step up , and then Of course there’s ; Benrahma . We live in hope . ⚒⚒⚒

  2. If he can’t do it Moyes won’t play him, end of which is good, I think Moyes could make him an even better player. it’s not too much of a stretch to imagine him playing like Arnautovic alongside Antonio, he certainly has the attributes to do that.

    • Better than Anautovic no doubt ; at least he will be in his natural position , not like Anautovic
Who was pushed up into striker ., which Worked for a while untill Anautovic got ideas of grandure . It’s a strange Situation we find ourselves in to be honest . For example ; Antonio has never tried to be bigger than the club and turns up consistently and I think Benrahama will have the same mentality .
Anyway today is a massive test of the team’s resolve .

  3. Medical seems odd considering he has played all but 2 games in last 2 seasons. Hopefully he doesn’t come to Rush Green then get injured…. Bc he has played almost every game in Championship for two seasons with across the line especially the first season with 17 assists. In all he has 30 Gola’s & 27 assists in 2 seasons not bad eh & it wanted the move here. With Snodgrass & Cresswell getting older he adds another set piece taker too & FK goals as well as from range. If we get the right CB & LB in Jan or next summer & can go back to a back 4 him on left with Fornals in middle & Bowen on right Antonio up front would be cause havoc with pace trickery & passing. Plus I think with Grady gone his Crossing will help intergrate Haller more
