David Moyes is looking for a return to their best in Liverpool tomorrow evening after suffering a “blip” against Southampton at the weekend.
There can be no doubts about his assessment with Gianluca Scamacca particularly unfortunate to miss out with four outstanding shots from distance in particular.
Unfortunately, the Hammers collective foot came off the pedal a bit and the home side themselves had enough chances to secure the points although there was little doubt that over the 90 minutes we were the better side.
Moyes – speaking at his pre-match presser for the Anfield game – reckons with his best players available we can compete at Anfield although he may not be in that happy position of course.
Central defence is clearly a problem and Maxwel Cornet won’t be available according to the boss so a monster performance will be required for us to get anything presumably!
Commenting the manager said: “I’m confident that if we can play well and get our best players on the pitch we can compete there.
“I said last year we wanted to be competitive against the best teams and I think we were. I hope we can try and do that this year too.”
“I do think that we’re beginning to go in the right direction, but I saw Sunday as a little bit of a blip as it was a game I thought we should have won.
“But we did have to go into the game with only Thilo (Kehrer) as a recognised centre back and that was similar to the opening three or four games of the season, which had an impact on us.”
