Tony Cottee is thrilled that David Moyes is  off to such a great start with the club this season and hopes he is soon offered a new deal.

TC was  speaking exclusively on ‘The Cottee Cast’ – a  West Ham Way podcast on The West Ham Way Patreon,  and feels he’s someone who understands the club well.

He said: “I’m really pleased for David Moyes. He’s really respectful, and he gets it.

“I remember when meeting Sam Allardyce for instance, no disrespect but he didn’t understand West Ham really. Moyes however totally gets there is the West Ham way, and our fans are a passionate bunch. He just gets what it means.

“With David Moyes I feel we are in safe hands. Yes, of course we can improve and be more attacking. The subs could be used more and show a bit more intent to win matches at times – but I do think he’s the right man.”

The former Hammers striker, who made his debut for West Ham at just 17 in 1983 – scoring in the game too against bitter rivals Spurs, now feels the club need to act and show loyalty to Moyes by offering him a new contract at the club.

“At the end of the day if he’s the one they want in charge then he needs a new deal, 1 year deal isn’t right in my opinion.” added Cottee.

“It creates uncertainty and also not ideal when bringing players in on 4-5 year contracts, with the manager in his last year.”
