Moyes’ big update on left-back hunt

David Moyes admits that he wants to sign a left-back before the transfer deadline.

The Hammers are eyeing a potential deal to sign Emerson Palmieri from Chelsea and have reopened talks over a deal.

West Ham made a bid worth £13m to sign the Italy international but the deal initially broke down over a gap in personal terms.

Moyes was asked about the pursuit of Emerson and while he refused to mention the Blues man by name, he did admit that the club need to sign a left-back before the transfer deadline.

Quoted by Football.London, he said: “We’d like somebody at left-back to help Cressy and get cover there but I would like some cover there. I wouldn’t talk about anyone individually.”

The Hammers face Brighton this weekend and Aaron Cresswell is likely to be restored to his first-choice role at left-back.

He will be able to play there, with Thilo Kehrer in line to make his debut after signing from PSG in midweek; Kurt Zouma is also fit and Vlad Coufal can return to right-back, having played on the opposite side against Viborg.

  1. A decent left-back is long overdue and crucial to our revamped style and progression as a team.
The left side of our team has also been our Achilles Heel since our revival under David Moyes.

  2. Would be good to get a left back in . The board and DM were right to call it off originally. Can’t be held over a barrel all the time . Common sense prevails not sure Palmeri is the best option we have but if DM wants him let’s trust ⚒

  3. Well he is 29 and not in the Chelsea first team, so well done DM for saying no to disrupting our pay structure. If David Moyes wants him and gets a deal now he will have really done the biz here.
