David Moyes chose to give Declan Rice a public dressing down for the mistake which led to the second goal against Arsenal. Was he right to do so?

O One mistake in five games were more used to one every 20 mins when ginge or Reid play
O I’m not a Moyes lover but he’s got it spot on, Ten minutes to go and we ain’t playing too badly. If the ball comes in like that you’ve just gotta clear it out No matter if he’s 19 or 39 should have known to have cleared it
O We understand that. We are talking about the public flogging
O Moyes has already alienated one of our best players in Chicharito and now he has publicly castigated our best young player for years. Whilst I think Moyes is better than Bilic, he is not the right man to take the club forward. He should be thanked for his efforts and shown the door on May 14th or we will lose our better players
O He’s a big boy playing with the big boys now. Should get used to a little constructive criticism. Nothing wrong said there in my books, if any of the other senior players had made a game costing mistake like that, they’d have also rightly have been criticised
O So the poor kid made a mistake, most goals come from individual errors, otherwise commentators would be out of a job, the correct response should have been defensive errors cost us the game and then chat with the guy one on one
O I am OK with criticism but to single out young lad is not fair. Its a week of weird and tasteless comments from coaches. First Klopp, now Moysee.
O THat stuff is for the dressing room
O A manager with a bit more class would not say that in public whether it is right or wrong.
O He is only telling it how it is. If Rice goes crying to his mummy that says one thing, if however he accepts the criticism, learns from it and doesn’t make the same mistake again, as I’m sure he will, then he’ll be a better stronger player for it. Moyes has shown his belief in the young player by starting him the last several games and in a vital position.
O He’s not wrong though is he
O Declan is a real star for the future and should be nurtured and not castigated for an error which may have cost us a point.
There is a rule in professional management; single out people for praise but take collective responsibility for mistakes. I don’t like the way that some managers like David and Mourinho talk to teh media about their players as though they were just a third party consultant offering advice. The manager is part of the team and ultimately the buck-stopper.
Completely wrong by Mpyes, yes it was a major error, and he knows it, but to raise it in public, No!
So its ok for a manager to publicly slate his player over an error ……….. yet if a player questions Moyes decisions in an interview then its bad form. Proper managers handle stuff like this in the office or the dressing room …. not in public, **** poor man management.
