West Ham could have eight senior players out injured today for the FA Cup clash against West Brom the London Stadium.
David Moyes has admitted that the Hammers picked up a couple of injuries in the midweek game against Leicester City telling reporters at Rush Green “We’ve got injuries to (Rober) Snodgrass and Arthur (Masuaku) which I think will both rule them out of the game at the weekend. We’re looking at Angelo (Ogbonna), who fell heavily on his back. They are the ones we have difficulties with as well”
On Masuaku the manager said, “He’s had fluid drawn out of his knee a couple of times, and I knew that on Wednesday night he was only going to ever be able to play 60 minutes.”
On Snodgrass, he added, “Snodgrass is an inflamed tendon in his knee, which I think is going rule [him] out of the weekend.” while Ogbonna faces a late fitness test saying “We’re having a look at Angelo just now, who fell heavily on his back.”
The three fresh injury doubts came on top of five senior players already in doubt. Fabianski returns out with a thing injury until early February, this week also probably comes too early for Ryan Fredericks also recovering from a thigh injury.
Andriy Yarmolenko also suffering from a thigh is likely to be out until late February as is Jack Wilshere groin and hip problem.
Felipe Anderson is also likely to be out until late February with an injury to his back with Moyes saying last week “A problem with his back from the landing which he had [vs SUFC] which looks as if it’s going to keep him out for a while, probably four weeks, we think:
This really is just laughable…our club is just one car crash after another ..its absolutely astonishing how many things go wrong every single year …clubs have problems but not to this extent and every season…
Also,in the past players were pumped full of pain killers for knee & ankle injuries, risking terrible long term problems. I assume that is no longer permitted.
I notice Snodgrass is now injured. He looked it on Wednesday but wasn’t there the usual reassurance (always best ignored) from the club that he was ok? What’s the point of that. We are not kids-just say he might not play.
Things have changed drastically over the years. As more money has entered the game standards of expertise, fitness and conditioning have risen. So much so that the game cannot now be played properly by players who are not 100% fit. Gone are the days when they were patched up and pushed out for the next game. Players are now so costly they are highly valued assets so any actions that could possibly cause them further damage are avoided. To play well at the highest level you absolutely must be A1. this has had the effect of making top players like highly strung top race horses. the slightest tweak can rapidly become something much more serious if not addressed immediately.
Thanks for that Dave i cant stop laughing
It always astonishes me how long players are out due to seemingly weak injuries, but im no professional footballer or physio. Maybe someone can explain to me
Anyway hope the Hammers win today
Hammer till i die
i don’t think these are all really injuries as such. Progression in the cup has unfortunately become a victim of the situation we find ourselves in.We have a must win game against Brighton coming up and we need the best possible eleven for that. Not great, but understandable.
Are you for real, if Moyes fields a poor team and plays in a negative way he will get destroyed by the fans. The only way to build confidence is to win games. He must win this game today, I would say the game against Liverpool is the game he needs to rest players for Brighton.
Has Jack Wilshire given up for good?
He’s been on the verge of a comeback for 4 years.
They don’t even suggest he might come back anymore.
Having watched the World Rugby Cup games (not my game but South Africa won it!), it amazes me how fragile soccer players are compared to guys playing rugby. Even the tiniest knock or shove will result in a player falling to the ground crying out in agony. Often it appears to be exaggerated or even faked. In rugby spectators would burst out laughing ar such feeble histrionics. Also soccer players seem to require an inordinate amount of time to recover from seemingly weak injuries. One also has to question training practices which fail to strengthen parts of the body liable to be injured in soccer. Bill Richards, Cape Town – where I can watch the game live on TV this afternoon!
