David Moyes has confirmed that he wants to sign a defender in the January transfer window.
The Hammers boss has said he would also like to sign a striker in the winter window, with that being his main aim ahead of injuries sustained by both Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma.
Ogbonna is set to be out for the remainder of the season, while the France international is facing as much as three months out.
And the Irons manager has now confirmed that he may look to sign a defender in the January window to ensure that the squad is properly stocked for both the Premier League and the Europa League.
Speaking to reporters ahead of this week’s clash with Dinamo Zagreb, he explained the Hammers only have Craig Dawson and Issa Diop as the senior centre-backs in the squad ahead of the clash with Dinamo and this weekend’s Premier League encounter with Burnley at Turf Moor.
He said: “We’ve picked up a few injuries to some defenders so that could make us look differently.
“I think we had hopefully been looking to add a forward player but we had a problem with that even in the summer window, where we were trying but there was nothing there and that’s not to say there would be anything there in January.
“So I think it will mean that we have to start maybe considering looking for a defender if possible but we will see how it goes because there’s nothing decided yet.”
