West Ham appear to have gone from famine to feast recently but I believe any decision on David Moyes must wait.
Almost without pause the Moyes narrative seems to have gone from self flagellation to self congratulation but the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.
Let me make something clear before I go on. If David Moyes moves West Ham into Premier League safety before the seasons end and wins a trophy it will be a remarkable achievement.
West Ham would have won a trophy for the first time in donkey’s years and would be looking forward to an unprecedented THIRD consecutive season in Europe. Put bluntly, the case for Moyes remaining at The London Stadium would be incredibly strong.
However, I have noticed an awful lot of back slapping and in some instances, crediting West Ham with a trophy before we’ve actually played in the semi finals.
There has been a decent upturn in form recently, but for the previous 12 months things have been pretty poor. Before the club rush to make a decision on the managers future I think it’s crucial we fully understand why there was such a drop-off.
Fundamentally there are massive recruitment questions which remain unanswered following a near £200m transfer spend. These must be addressed before Moyes or any other manager is handed the budget for next year and mandated with replacing Declan Rice.
Lucas Paqueta’s recent form has been excellent and he’s finally looking like a £50m footballer. It can also be argued that Nayef Aguerd and to a lesser extent Emerson have been successfully assimilated into the squad.
However, doubts remain over the huge sums spent on Gianluca Scamacca, Maxwel Cornet, Danny Ings, Alphonse Areola, Thilo Kehrer and Nicola Vlasic.
