Moyes delighted to beat United to summer buy

|

David Moyes is delighted that West Ham managed to swoop in ahead of Manchester United and Arsenal to sign Gianluca Scamacca in the summer transfer window.

United were briefly linked with a move to sign the Italy international from Sassuolo before he made a £30m+ move to the London Stadium.

Scamacca is continuing to settle in at the London Stadium and, thus far, has scored six goals in all competitions thus far.

He could be leading the line on Sunday when the Hammers go to Old Trafford to play United, and Moyes admits that, while he was unaware of any potential competition from the Red Devils, he is delighted that Scamacca chose to move to West Ham.

He told reporters: I didn’t hear that rumour. I knew there was interest from Arsenal and one or two other clubs but I didn’t hear Man United.

“We are interested in a lot of the good players but with the bigger clubs, like anything else, most clubs can only sign 3, 4 players a season mainly. We have gone bigger this year, but with all the rumours you hear, clubs can only bring in a certain amount. United at the time chose not to bring in a centre forward.

“They may have still had Cavani and Ronaldo and Rashford. They have got quite a few they can select. Thankfully they didn’t get him and we did.”
