Moyes delighted with youngsters

David Moyes was pleased with the way his Hammers youngsters performed against Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday night.

The Irons took on the Croatian side in their final group stage game in the Europa League, well aware that the group had already been won and progression to the round of 16 secured.

As a result, Moyes opted to play a number of youngsters against Dinamo, with Jamal Baptiste, Emmanuel Longelo, and Sonny Perkins making their full debuts.

A wondergoal from Mislav Orsic gave Dinamo a 1-0 win but Moyes was still pleased with what he saw from the kids that were given a chance, including Aji Alese and Harrison Ashby at the London Stadium.

Speaking after the clash, Moyes said, as per BBC Sport: “I’m a winner and disappointed we didn’t get something out of the game.

“I thought the young players did really well and recovered after losing an early goal.

“I’m always happy to give young players a chance but they have to earn the right to play and none of them let us down – they did a great job.”

The Hammers are likely to ring the changes again this weekend when the club take on Burnley on Sunday in the Premier League, prior to a midweek league clash with Arsenal.
