David Moyes had mixed feelings about the draw at Bournemouth today admitting afterwards that he is “trying to get the team to play better.”
That was a rather odd comment to make publicly as one would expect that to be the case in every club wherever football is played.
With the Irons dominating the first half of the 1-1 draw and Bournemouth the second Moyes found himself trying to explain whether his policy had worked or not.
We saw a brilliant Jarrod Bowen goal from a great passing move and Pablo Fornals always at the heart of such inventive football from the Irons,
But there was also some careless passing and lost possession followed by a far too defensive attitude towards the end of the game.
Commenting afterwards on the approach to the game on the south coast Moyes admitted not being happy with all of it but that hopefully we’ve still got a bit to go.
He told www.whufc.com: “There were bits where we played with a lower block, and we didn’t go pressing as much today as we have done in other games. But we got ourselves in front and I was hoping we would hang on there.
Moyes wants West Ham to play better
I’m trying to get us to play better and I’m hoping that will come. We had a bit of the ball, we worked to try and play and we’re trying to get better in different situations. Some of it was very good.
We’re pleased we’ve come away to Bournemouth and done that because it’s never going to be easy, but last year we came here and won quite well, and today we needed to get that second goal. We had some periods of play where, if we’d got a goal, we’d probably have had the game wrapped up.
But while it didn’t, it meant that we were under the cosh. We didn’t look after the ball well enough when we got it, to stop them from getting their chance.
Łukasz Fabiański has been sensational for us in the time I’ve been here. The way he goes about his job is tremendous and everything he does is very, very good.
But the decision, on this occasion, was to give Alphonse the chance to stake a claim to the No1. If you don’t play well, then you’ve got somebody else breathing down your neck.
It is one thing our team will never, never get questioned about. And that is a really big positive for players when they’re always at it and always trying their best. They do the right things to be team players, and that’s what we want here at West Ham.
Sadly our manager seems out of touch with todays game. He has youth potential on the bench and brings on Ings . For me he must be replaced before we lose more players in the transfer window.
This season shaping up to be the same last season. take the lead then retreat into our shell, another season of relegation worries. Moyes must go!
Were any of the Board present at the match ? West Ham played rubbish. We had no proper Defensive Midfield Player in place of Rice. What the hell does have to happen before the Board get rid of this man.
Our possession stats have been poor for a while now. Defeatist tactics. We could easily have lost yesterday. Where are our little triangle of players to get out of our own half and onwards?
It was inevitable that we would concede a goal after we sat back to defend a 1-0 lead. Absolutely pathetic! And we had been playing quite well despite conceding possession as usual. But that’s the Moyes way, isn’t it! It’s no wonder Paqueta wants out.
Benrahma was rather disappointing, which makes me sad that we failed to buy Harvey Barnes from Leicester. Barnes was very impressive for Newcastle against Villa. To think that he would have been perfect for us and mirror our amazing Jarrod Bowen over on the right side.
