Moyes delivers view on possible Lingard switch

West Ham manager David Moyes remains confident of landing Jesse Lingard permanently this summer.

Speaking to the Evening Standard Moyes said “Jesse wanted to come here, right from the start. When I was talking to him he wanted to come to West Ham.

He saw it as a really good place for him. I think he’ll have seen what we’re trying to do. He’s joined a good group of players as well.

We’ve got international players and I’m hoping we can add to that in the coming transfer window. The job is to try to add to that.

But I would hope Jesse sees this as a good place if it’s possible to be done, and if we think that we want to do it at the end of the season.”

On Lingard’s England chances Moyes added:

“I think the England squad will be very hard to break into (but) the form of some of the players at the moment means they must be getting close, I’m guessing Jesse isn’t going to be too far away if his form stays the same.”

Southgate names his squad for this month’s World Cup qualifiers on Thursday next week.

Claret and Hugh says: By all accounts Lingard is loving his time at West Ham. It  is a new start for him and he has grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He seems to have fitted in nicely both off and on the pitch with four goals to his name already and declaring that he is loving life with the boys. He has a year left on his Manchester United contract with the clubs with United to get £20 million for new players of their own in the summer.  His personal wishes will be fundamental to his stay at West Ham to become a permanent Hammer this summer and things are looking good at that level. A £20m transfer with wages of £115,000 per week would seem to be a wise and prudent investment for the 28-year old.
