Moyes disappointed with Vlad

David Moyes was disappointed with Vlad Coufal’s positioning ahead of Arsenal’s opening goal in their 2-0 win over the Hammers on Wednesday evening.

The Gunners won a fractious London derby in which the Czech Republic international was sent off for two yellow cards, the second coming after he was adjudged to have fouled Alexandre Lacazette in the box.

The sending off was undoubtedly harsh as replays showed that Coufal won the ball but Anthony Taylor pointed to the spot and VAR opted not to overturn the decision.

Prior to that, Coufal was caught on his heels when Gabriel Martinelli sprinted through on goal and scored, bending an excellent effort beyond Lukasz Fabianski into the bottom corner.

And Moyes delivered a withering verdict on the right-back’s positioning, telling reporters, per Football.London: “If our full-back had been in a proper full-back position we would have stopped the goal.”

The Hammers have slipped out of the top four as a result of their defeat and now sit a point behind the Gunners in fifth ahead of Thursday’s round of fixtures.
