Moyes drops Diop bombshell

|

David Moyes claims Issa Diop has refused to play for the Hammers.

The French defender was absent from the squad that faced Manchester City on the opening weekend of the season.

City won the game 2-0 thanks to an Erling Haaland brace.

Diop has been heavily linked with a potential move to Fulham in this transfer window and now appears to have told the Irons that he does not want to play.

Asked whether the centre-back had sustained an injury, hence his absence, Moyes dropped the bombshell that he had asked not to be picked.

As quoted by Football.London, Moyes said: “No, Issa Diop is not injured at the minute.

“Issa Diop didn’t put himself forward to play in the last couple of games and we will see what happens with that in the next couple of weeks.”

Asked if Diop was likely to leave, he added: “I don’t know.”

Diop has fallen down the pecking order at West Ham but the injury to Nayef Aguerd opened the door to him being picked in the team on Sunday; instead, Ben Johnson played at centre-back alongside Kurt Zouma.

It remains to be seen if Fulham will attempt to capitalise by making a formal bid in the next few weeks.

Don’t blame Diop let him leave for his career and moyes should have got in a centre back quicker after aguerd was injured . Too slow again and left back too also too slow to act and get it done.

Is there anything on this earth that isn’t Moyes’ fault right now? Get real – Diop is totally in the wrong.

He’s waiting for a transfer isn’t he so doesn’t want to risk getting injured. Interesting that he was filmed showing the new French signing Cornet round the place the other day.

I have a little sympathy with Issa’s frustrations at the moment but during his time here he has come up a little short. If Aguerd didn’t get injured, we can all be sure that he would probably have been sold by now.
As a professional footballer, you should have the integrity and sense of duty to lace up your boots and get onto the pitch when told. How many of us can refuse to carry out a duty that we are being paid to do at work?

No sympathy whatsoever. He’s most probably paid per week what most of us earn in year. Suck it up and play irrespective of whether you want out or not.

I don’t blame Diop either, he knows he will never be first choice and is making a difficult stand in order to move to a club where he will be first choice, it’s never easy accepting that you haven’t made it, with the exception of this start to the season he has been a great servant to the club and from previous reports never been a problem. Will also feel sorry for Benrahma if/when he leaves he also has a great attitude and character but for whatever reason it hasn’t worked out, he should be in a first team somewhere and if Forest sign him as looks possible then good luck to him.

Diop is paid a small fortune every week so whatever his grievance he should do what is required for the team. Withdrawal of labour should incur a large financial penalty!
