David Moyes admits he doesn’t know if either Kurt Zouma or Craig Dawson will be fit to play against Liverpool on Wednesday.
The two defenders both missed the clash with Southampton on Sunday, which ended in a 1-1 draw after Declan Rice cancelled out Romain Perraud’s opener.
Their absence saw David Moyes draft in Ben Johnson and Aaron Cresswell to play in his back three; the only experienced centre-back was Thilo Kehrer.
Liverpool have bounced back from their poor form and beat Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, thanks to Mo Salah’s goal, and they also thumped Rangers 7-1 in the Champions League in midweek.
The idea of going into a game at Anfield without any really experienced centre-back options sounds like a disaster waiting to happen and Moyes has been unable to give an update on either Zouma or Dawson.
The former has been struggling with illness and Dawson has had a knock.
Moyes told reporters, as per Football.London: “One’s got an injury and one’s got an illness so we’ve had to go without them. Obviously, we’ve got no Nayef Aguerd at the moment so we were rocked terribly from an injury in midweek. It’s really set us back from how we want to play.”
Asked if they could play against Jurgen Klopp’s side, Moyes replied: “No idea, no idea.”
