Moyes effect exemplified by Diop!

Issa Diop didn’t have a look in for months!

The defender played 90 minutes against Crystal Palace back in December, then missed a total of 10 games.

He was on the bench as Angelo Ogbonna, Fabian Balbuena, and Craig Dawson were all given the opportunity to play regularly.

Diop was only drafted back in because of Oggies injury!

And today he kept Harry Kane quiet as West Ham beat Spurs 2-1 in a genuinely excellent defensive performance.

He came back in against Sheffield United and scored in the 3-0 win and now he seems to be back to his genuinely imperious best.

With the Irons now firmly in the top four, we will need every piece of squad depth to ensure a decent end to the season.

And it is telling that Diop has bought into Moyes’ methods so much that he has risen from the bench and been genuinely imperious.

Sunday was a prime example of a player proving his worth.

Up against one of the best strikers in world football, he ensured that Kane didn’t have a gilt-edged chance.

It is also worth noting that every single one of our big signings – Coufal, Soucek, Bowen, even Benrahma – have looked every bit the part in recent weeks.

Moyes has got a tune out of every single player in his squad and with big tests to come – Man City next week is huge – the buy-in of the squad is such a promising thing to see.

A top-four finish really isn’t an outlandish idea at all, especially if every player adopts Diop’s mentality!

  1. What he’s done this season is incredible. He is making players hungry for their place in the team; I’ve seen with Yarmo, balbuena, diop and Fredericks can be added to that list in recent weeks. I’m not a noble fan but he got a good game out him in the cup the other week too.

  2. Not a noble fan – do one ⚒

    • Too right…..
IF…….. You FAIL to understand what it means to be on the pitch in possibly his last playing season for the club and to taste victory against the spuds when the final whistle is blown…
      Unbelievable!
Even young Hammer Johnson (our future) was allowed to have a taste…

  3. Well written and I could not agree more – all the players were top notch and although not mentioned Declan Rice was absolutely wonderful as captain – he has learnt much from Nobes – who must stay at the club after he hangs up his boots. As an Englishman now living in South Africa I must admit that I have to admire what Moyes has done to turn the club around – I lived in Glasgow for 7 years and it is certainly a city to grow your balls!

  4. Diop was a Great buy and has recaptured the form of his first season.

  5. We all go on about players going down for no reason what about our rock blood pouring from a head wound gets up to block a shot goes down again then vehemently argues with his own trainer to stay on what a mann
