Moyes eyeing defensive replacement

Reports are claiming that West Ham are considering a move for Fiorentina’s 27-year-old defender, Lucas Martinez Quarta, as our pursuit of Manchester United’s Harry Maguire fades.

However, it’s unclear if David Moyes has completely abandoned his interest in Maguire although with little or no money available in the winter window it looks over on that front .

Moyes eyeing defensive replacement: Hammers have dropped interest in Harry Maguire in favour of Lucas Martinez Quarta.

Moreover, Nayef Aguerd’s inconsistent form may prompt Moyes to seek additional defensive reinforcement, despite reported interest from the Saudi Pro League during the summer transfer window.

Aguerd will also be leaving in January to play in the African Cup of Nations. He is expected to return mid February, ruling him out of West Ham contention for a month.

If West Ham manage to secure Martinez Quarta for a reported £25 million, Moyes might view Aguerd as surplus to requirements. Brighton and Hove Albion are also reportedly interested in the player.
